HOLD FAST

Find Your Way.

Our Mission

We are on a mission to get fellow veterans out on the water of the Chesapeake Bay to create purpose and connection through shared work and conversation.

All of us at the helm of this organization are combat veterans who have struggled with personal challenges after coming home from active duty. We found peace and purpose through open conversation with others who understand the experiences we went through.

We know that by extending a hand to one another, we can overcome and help others find their way to a life they want to keep living.

Dan Knott – Founder of Hold Fast

“Working on the water allowed me the time and space to slowly open up to others. This allowed me to realize that my story was not uncommon and I needed help to survive and that asking for help was OK.”

Nick Barnes –  Director of Operations

The peer to peer support is such a crucial part of our program. I know I can connect with other veterans and talk about anything without the worry of being judged, or burdening my family and friends who don’t truly understand.

After getting out of the Navy I struggled to find a sense of purpose. I had school, work and a family yet still, felt unfulfilled and as if something was missing. Being on the water, working with veterans, has brought me so much peace and given me that sense of purpose I desperately needed.

“It was like coming back to life. Dan encouraged me to open up, embrace the water, and face my past.”
